Transcend Installed on Port River Expressway
September 2008
The Transcend Motorway Management System has now been commissioned to operate the Port River Expressway in South Australia.
This new strategic Road and Rail Link connects between the Salisbury Highway and Outer Harbor, and links a 4 lane high-level opening vehicle bridge and dual gauge opening rail bridge across the Port River. The Port River Expressway Road and Rail bridges are opening structures designed to maintain the inner harbor as an active waterway. The Transcend System was chosen to manage and control the roadways, approaches and bridges. The Transcend Motorway Management System makes it possible for the system to be controlled at the bridge control room, or remotely from the SA Government Traffic Management Centre.
The Port River Expressway system provides significant road and rail efficiencies, and allows heavy road and rail freight to now bypass Port Adelaide centre and residential streets. It is now a major thoroughfare for freight and passenger road traffic travelling from the northern suburbs to the major port facilities of South Australia in Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor.
