TrackRanger runs on Apple MAC Notebook - here's how

September 2009

One of our customers sent this information which will help MAC users enjoy the features of TrackRanger.

Computer used: MacBook Pro 13inch with 150Gb hard disk drive
Software emulation: Paralles Desktop ( Costs approx $150 from any good software house)

Process.
Load your Parallels software & it will create a virtual machine that will run jointly with MAC with no need to close down & re-boot. Using this program you can run both Mac & Windows software on the one Pc at the same time
There is no specific drive for the Windows software as it runs concurently with MAC
With your PC running in windows ( paralles desktop loaded) load the Trackranger & other software ( maps etc) as per normal.

If you have a GPS that has a Serial (RS232) output you need to purchase a USB to Serial converter and load the drivers for Windows whilst running Windows. (I use Aten model UC-232A available from www.oceancontrols.com.au, based in Seaford Vic for $46 incl postage)

If you had to use the USB to Serial converter check Windows “ADD HARDWARE” to see a list of the installed hardware & note your Serial Converter port.
Start up TrackRanger and change your GPS port to match your PC (once set, this doesn't need to be adjusted again).
If you have say the Trackranger GPS with a USB plug I imagine it should be recognised immediately

The trick I have found in starting it all up is to have everything connected and running EXCEPT the GPS.
When satisfied that the PC & TrackRanger is running OK start the GPS

Bingo - Track on a  MAC!
